PERSONAL PROJECT / LUME
A PRIVATE PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNAL
Keep a little of the feeling.
A moment, the words around it, and a way back.

THE REASON TO KEEP A MOMENT
What happened is only
part of the memory.
A photograph can hold the scene while losing the little details around it: where we were, how the day felt, or why an ordinary afternoon mattered. Lume brings short media, words, a date, a place and an emotion into one private journal.
That premise changes the product's shape. The collection should invite revisiting rather than competing for attention. The calendar should help when a person remembers the day first. Sharing should begin with choosing what leaves the library.
This is the product rationale expressed by the implemented memory model and interface. It is not presented as an undocumented personal origin story.

WAYS BACK TO A MOMENT
September. October. November.
Nine photographic memories give the journal a passage of time. A populated October, a quieter morning and a shared dinner show why a memory needs more than a thumbnail. The stories and dates are demonstration content.

FIRST EXPLORATION / RECONSTRUCTED
A moment, a date,
a way back.
The Moleskine study at Petone reduces the product to its first relationships: a few memories, days and a story. The circles are rough on purpose. The question is how to return to a feeling before deciding how polished its container should look.

Reconstructed early exploration in a Moleskine A5 at Petone foreshore. Generated for this portfolio, with deliberately primitive wireframes; not original archival design evidence.
WAYS BACK TO A MOMENT
Different ways to find the same feeling.
A pile invites recognition. A list gives another rhythm. Emotion and words provide narrower routes when a person remembers how a moment felt before they remember its date.

WAYS BACK TO A MOMENT
Give the image a little context.
The native creation flow keeps the photograph, title, emotion and date close together. Clip editing and the journal are part of the same memory rather than separate posts. The atlas also includes the real camera controls, captured without starting a recording.

FROM IDEA TO IMPLEMENTATION
A memory should survive
the way it is saved.
Lume's native model joins media with a title, note, place, recorded date and emotion. SwiftUI gives that record several ways back into view: a spatial collection, a chronological calendar and a journal.
The media path is as important as the visual one. Import first stages the files away from the visible library, then commits the metadata and publishes the updated collection. Story export uses AVFoundation to prepare the selected media. A private CloudKit backup exists separately from deliberate sharing; the portfolio fixture bypasses personal backup and widget publication.
Keep the media
Stage the original files before publishing a memory.
Keep its meaning
Store the words, place, date and emotion beside it.
Choose what travels
Prepare a Story only from the memories a person selects.

try FileManager.default.moveItem(at: staged, to: destination)
// Build the updated memory index before publishing it.
try repository.save(updated, firstSaveDay: memory.savedDayKey)
memories = updatedThe comment marks omitted construction lines. The visible library updates after the metadata commit. The sample media are photographic fixtures, encoded into short still-media clips for the native moving-memory surfaces.
CHOOSE WHAT LEAVES THE LIBRARY
Three memories,
one chosen Story.
Selection and preview are separate moments. Up to six memories can be prepared together. The captured example brings three selected photographs into the actual native AVFoundation preview; the private library remains its own place.

THE VISUAL LANGUAGE
Light, held gently.
The current identity pairs a glass-inspired symbol with a plum-and-mauve palette. Warm paper and editorial typography balance the reflective material. Teal and amber bring moments of life to a system intended to feel intimate, calm and personal.

APPLICATION STUDIES
The journey home
is part of the story.
The warm Petone memory sits inside the cooler present of a Matangi journey beside Wellington Harbour. The train reference informed the green and blue upholstery, pale walls and yellow-green rails. The person, event and product photograph are fictional; the local setting gives Lume a coherent world of its own.

Some days deserve a way back.
WHERE IT IS NOW
A journal becomes richer
when time has passed through it.
Nine photographic memories now span September, October and November. A cup of coffee, a birthday, the coast, dinner and an afternoon at Petone make the calendar and collection feel like a lived-in journal rather than three repeated placeholders.
The next evaluation is whether people can understand the private purpose, find a moment through the route that makes sense to them and feel confident about what a Story shares. The design should make room for the person's meaning to remain the centre.
The full screen atlas contains the physical iPhone captures for collection and list, current and populated calendar months, photographic journal variants, detail and peek, filtering and search, capture controls, creation and editing, clip editing, Story selection and preview, settings, widgets, backup and dark appearance. The camera was pointed at a user-approved neutral surface; no recording was started. Explore the full screen atlas ↗
